A friend asked if Son ever played with toy guns when he was young but before I could answer, she retorted, 'I'll never let J play with gun or get involved with war play. He'll definitely end up a violent person,' she ended with such assured confidence.
Hmm... Come to think of it, it has never been an issue with us. Son has played with toy guns and indulged in war play and even if he doesn't have a gun at hand, he has imaginatively turned his other toys into make believe weapons.
He has never exhibited worrisome traits of violent characteristic and he's never obsessed with the weapons. Gun play was just another game which kept him entertained till he grew tired of it before moving on to another toy.
Now as a teen, Son still plays with guns - in cyberspace. Occasionally, he enjoys the online tactical shooting game, Sudden Attack. We are always wrestling for more play time on my laptop. Ya, you read right, I too play and that is because Son threw me a dare to better his score and this gun trotting mommy aims to do just that ............
